inspired by: baby bedding

This week we were inspired by the baby bedding for a friend’s upcoming bundle of joy! And created her baby shower invitation to coordinate with the bedding.

Here is the bedding that was registered for by Serena and Lily:

Ombré sugar dome birthday cake

Happy birthday to my husband!! It shouldn’t take more than 4 hours to bake a cake, but when you are making several shades of your own sugar domes and need several trips to the store, sometimes things can get out of control. That’s right, crazy wild baking cakes on a Friday night!

Burlap Shmurlap

I don’t pretend to be a whiz kid at sewing so upfront I want to confess that this DIY could not have been done without the help of lovely mom, who is a master seamstress grande dame.  Thanks momma!

Materials I used:

2 NILS stools from Ikea – $44.99 each

Coffee Sack from a local flea market – $1

Amazing mom as seamstress

First, I measured out the pattern and how I wanted the image to appear on both stools. Because I used only 1 coffee sack, the prep work was important!

We cut the burlap bag down one vertical seam to measure it out on the stool. Mom hand-stitched the corners using thread from the burlap that we originally cut away (so the thread matched the fabric). She pinned it together and hand-stitched the 4 seams on each stool to perfection!

quatrefoil lovin’

I designed these beautiful cards for Ellen, who was planning on using to write thank you cards for her recent baby shower. They’d be great as Thank You’s, Baby Stationery, Social Stationery, or ‘just because’ cards. The hand-lined envelopes are perfect for that pop of unexpected color on the inside. We loved our afternoon assembling them – HERE.

Love the rounded corners!

 Thanks Ellen, Hope you enjoy!

Chocolate Salty Balls

I’ve had a really bad craving for some really bad food lately. Here is my latest indulgence, which I made this weekend for an out-of-town family reunion. I got lots of compliments and it was an easy no-bake recipie that everyone loved!

Chocolate – Peanut Butter – Pretzel Balls

Ingredients for about 50 balls

3 C Pretzels

1 C creamy peanut butter

2 Tbsp butter, softened

4 Tbsp light brown sugar

1/4 tsp salt

6 Tbsp Powdered Sugar

1 C semi-sweet chocolate chips

To make:

1. crush pretzels. I threw them in a baggie and danced around the kitchen though you probably could use a food processor just as easily with similar results. 🙂

2. Combine the peanut butter, butter, brown sugar, and salt.

3. Blend it all together until smooth and no lumps (unlike this photo).

4. Add pretzels and mix thoroughly. Then blend in powdered sugar.

5. Roll the mixture into a ball with a diameter of about 3/4 inch. Place the balls evenly on the chilling tray lined with wax paper. This part gets sticky! Either add powdered sugar or cool your hands with cold water to continue rolling.

6.  Chill in the refridgerator for at least 30 minutes.

7. After they have chilled, prepare the chocolate. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a small bowl for 30 seconds in the microwave. Stir. If they aren’t melted, continue to zap in the microwave on 10 second blasts and stir until the chocolate is smooth.

8. One by one roll the balls in the chocolate with a fork for even coating.

9. Place them evenly on the chilling tray and return to the fridge for another 30 minutes.

10. Enjoy!

Messy but YUM!

Letters to Baby Wright

The hostesses of a baby shower approached Honeycomb Stationery Studio to design and print these adorable ‘Par Avion’ Antique postal system – inspired letters to baby. The hostesses planned on having a table at the baby shower where the guests could create ideas and fill in the blanks for a bit of ad-lib fun!

I LOVE anything antique-inspired, especially travel (ok, mayyybe modern conveniences and technology are a little bit more useful in travelling than antique systems were…) But generally the idea of old suitcases, big sunglasses with a scarf around your head, and hand-delivering packages all over the world just thrills me.

This is also a great option for those mommies-to-be that have decided to not find out the gender or for baby showers that are early in the pregnancy!

I loved working with the hostesses on this project! I guess the only question now is…who is going to teach the baby to read??

Cameo in BRIDES UK

I received a lovely email from a dear friend in London who is planning her wedding (Honeycomb is designing and printing her wedding suite – stay tuned!). She was flipping through the March/April edition of BRIDES Magazine in the UK and stumbled upon a little cameo of a picture of my wedding day getting my makeup done by the lovely Sarah Brock. Hubby is in a picture in the background. The article is about Sarah and her wonderful expertise in the bridal makeup world – definitely an expert you want on hand for your wedding day if its in the UK! Here is the full interview.
